With a rich history, this establishment was originally built as two distinct family homes. Intriguingly, it once functioned as an orphanage for Jewish children. However, for most of its existence the two houses provided homes for two separate families. More recently, the previous owners ingeniously linked the two residences, Hofmeyr House and Stephenson House, through the creation of a serene leafy courtyard. While the owners resided in Hofmeyr House, Stephenson was operated as a guest house. The lovely textiles that cover the furniture and many walls all come from “Room 13 Textiles,” a brand established by the previous owner’s two enterprising daughters. The name “Room 13” is fittingly derived from the very room where the business was founded.
Whether you are visiting us for the first time or returning, we look forward to welcoming you to Welgelegen’s many charms.
